Green Heron at Misquamicut, Rhode Island

Yesterday's trip to the beach in Rhode Island was mainly a bust. I didn't get any decent photos of shorebirds which were my main goal. There weren't that many around and the ones that were around were pretty skittish. I was laying in the mud waiting to see if a Least Sandpiper would come close to me when I spotted a Green Heron land to the right of me in the marsh about 50 feet away. It was my first ever chance to photograph this species and was so happy when I was able to get closer to it. This bird was so tame, and I was able to get well within the minimum focussing distance of my 400 lens. However it didn't like to land in the prettiest settings but I did the best I could. This one below was after I tried stalking it the first time, which made him fly to the other side of the water, which was about 15 feet across. I like the pose and the inclusion of habitat it has.
