On Friday evening it was getting late, and I almost decided not to stop because the sun would be behind the treeline leaving the ducks in shade. I showed up anyway, and thankfully I didn't regret it! While shooting the ducks, they all looked up into the sky and when I did I was excited to see this Red-tailed Hawk circling overhead. It was an even greater surprise when I noticed it had a Red Squirrel for dinner. A very cool encounter, although I wish it had passed somewhat closer..

More from Indian Lake...
I've been making quite a few stops at Indian Lake in Worcester, which is where I took the gull photos from my last post. It is a very reliable location for some instant action on Mallards, which always has a group of about a dozen hanging right in front of the parking lot near the boat launch. They are very willing subjects.

Beautiful shots Josh! Great details and low angle on the ducks. Love the light on the hawk image. Did you use fill flash on any of these?
ReplyDeleteAwesome photography

Thanks for the comments!
ReplyDeleteLandon, I used fill on the male mallard image only. It didn't fire on the other image.
Lovely pictures and awesome photography.
ReplyDeleteAmazing shots, Josh!
ReplyDeleteI love all the pictures. They show all the beauty of these wonderful creatures.
You have captured all the details of the feathers (textures, colors, light, reflections...) with exquisite perfection.
Greetings fom Spain (South-Western Europe).
